TOP TEN FILMS OF 2000

2000 was a bad year for movies. The best films are those which inspire wonder, provoke thought, and, through their characters, reveal parts of ourselves that we never knew existed. Such films were conspicuously absent from Hollywoods output this year, and thats why there are only one or two mainstream films on the Top 10 list. Despite the studios refusal to make good films, there were many independent projects this year which assured us that the art of filmmaking remains alive and well.

Traffic was by far the best film of the year, but the other spots on this list werent nearly as clear-cut. The #2 film could easily have been listed at #9, and vice versa. None of them were truly great, but all of them were very good. Here, then, are the ten best movies made in the year 2000:

6. High Fidelity

8. The Contender
