Life in Cuba is very different from what the American government and media
would have you believe. The country certainly has its problems —
it is, after all, a dictatorship —
but many of the changes brought about by the Revolution have made
everyday life in Cuba better than at any other time in its history. There is no
homelessness, very little crime, and Cuba’s
literacy rates and national health care system put those of the United States to
shame.
Although U.S. law makes it illegal for most Americans to travel in Cuba, thousands of
citizens each year disobey this law and visit Cuba as an act of civil
disobedience. All travel must go through a third country such as Mexico or
Canada. If you are a baseball fan and would like more information on visiting Cuba, contact Cubaball
Tours. To learn more about the U.S. blockade and what you can do to help end
it, visit the Cuba Solidarity
website.
